Personal information:

Name: Joseph J. Sitler
Major: MBA Accounting

Graduation date: May 2001
Field: Taxation
Job title: Tax Consultant
Company: Ernst and Young LLP

1- Please describe briefly your company's business
Assurance, Tax and Financial Consulting

2- How did you get your job?
Through on-campus recruiting

3- How did Baruch help you in your job search?
Initially, Tracy helped me get a tax internship in the spring of 2000, which in turn helped me get the job experience necessary to interview with the “Big Five” Accounting Firms. The February internship fair and a few contacts from the previous full-time class helped me secure a summer internship with PwC. These two experiences and all the GCS workshops prepared me for the interview process with the Big Five for full time positions. Barbara, at the Career Development Center, was indispensable in this process as well.

4- What would be your advice to students trying to get a job in your field?
Make sure to get as much practical experience as your schedule allows. If possible, take a variety of different positions in your field to gain the experience and to establish contacts. Also, use the resources of both career development centers during every step of the process and leverage the strength of the Baruch name in the accounting industry.

5- Do you think that as a Baruch graduate you will find any difficulty in the working place compared to co-workers from top schools?
No. Baruch’s program gave me the necessary framework to be able to take advantage of practical experiences during the school year and the summer. Not only did I take my studies seriously but I also saw the importance of gaining on-the-job training.
